Here’s where you should head if you’re planning to shop in Delhi.

For the Ultra-Glam Bride—Qutub, Mehrauli:

If you’re fancy and you know it raise your hand. And then head straight to Qutub area on Mehrauli road. This little stretch is what you would compare to Fifth Avenue in New York or Champs Elysée in Paris, but for Indianwear. The cream of the country’s top designers have lavish stores here, each designed to look like you’ve been transported to a royal era. From Sabyasachi to Manish Malhotra and Anita Dongre, there is not a name on your wishlist you won’t find here. From standalone boutiques to multi-designer stores, they’re competing neck-to-neck for your attention. And the best part is that these stores are interspersed with the best restaurants and café’s in the country, literally. So you can take a well-deserved break from shopping and indulge in some delicious gourmet.

For the OTT-but-Practical Bride—Shahpur Jat, Haus Khaz Village

If you’re someone who wants to dress to the nines for her wedding and beyond, but don’t want to spend unnecessarily, these 2 pedestrian markets are your best bet. Unlike Qutub, these have small boutique stores run by young and upcoming designers who not just wow you with their creations, but can also create just about anything you have in mind. The styles are stunning, prices affordable and there is considerable room for negotiation, especially if you’re buying a lot. In addition to clothes, you’ll find stunning costume jewellery, embellished bags and beautiful shoes too.

For the budget-conscious bride—Chandni Chowk

For brides who want a beautiful trousseau within a tighter budget, Chandni Chowk is the answer to all your prayers. It’s a little (or quite) rough around the edges and will certainly not offer you the first class experience of Qutub, but it is a treasure trove of beautiful finds. Especially, if you have the eye for it! Explore the narrow lanes on foot and enter the innocuous little stores—they may look like nothing but these are the craftsmen who create for all the top designers. And therefore have absolutely beautiful variants of their collections at a fraction of the original price. You’ll find a whole variety of odd ends here that can be used for your wedding prep!
